CHINA AND THE WORLD ECONOMY:
CRISIS, ADJUSTMENT and GLOBAL PROSPERITY
Co-organised by
School of Economics, Peking University
University of Oxford
Chinese Economic Association (Europe/UK)
16-17 September 2010
Beijing • China

● Background and Themes
Although main economies have showed signs of recovery and growth one by one after the hardtime given by the global economic crisis, we still constantly could feel the crisis’s power through phenomena such as jobless rebound in U.S., the latest Greek debt crisis, etc. Some pessimistic scholars even boldly forecast that the crisis has its second shock wave just in 1-2 years ahead.

Relatively optimistic scholars, whereas, start to cast their thoughts on how the global economic system will change after this crisis and how to move forward for continued and sustainable global economic prosperity. China, as a fast-rising economic force which has played an important role in battling the crisis, is expected to continue to be a crucial part in stabilizing the future world economy.

The main theme of the conference will be CHINA AND THE WORLD ECONOMY: CRISIS, ADJUSTMENT and GLOBAL PROSPERITY, addressing mostly the impact of the global economic crisis on China, the responses of China at national, regional and firm levels, and their influences on world economy system, which ensures the future global prosperity. Theoretical and empirical studies, as well as comparative studies of China and other emerging economies are all welcomed.

Contributions focusing on the following issues would be of particular interest:
• The impact of global economic crisis on China and other emerging economies
• The role of China and other emerging economies in global economic recovery
• New trend in globalisation and economic integration
• China’s transformation from investment-driven to consumption-driven economy
• Innovation and transition from “Made in China” to “Created in China”
• China’s monetary policy and the soaring property price
• Low-carbon and sustainable economy in China and the world
• Reforms of financial sector and public healthcare system
• Income distribution and labour market in China
• Corporate governance in China
